I have been hearing this question from multiple people who want to learn QlikView or Qlik Sense but in reality both the tools are the same at the core architecture level(I mean QIX engine, associative model), but then what are the differences.
- QlikView is more useful for guided analytics, where Qlik Sense is useful for self service.
Phew! What are these ‘Guided’ and ‘Self Service’! I am not a technical guy! screaming….
Let me take an example, you bought a mobile phone today which is smart enough and the
phone OS will help you to customize the phone like templates, look and feel etc but it will
not allow you to develop some thing on top of it. Here comes self service where you can
develop on the existing, in Qlik Sense a data model is developed by the developer where
develop on the existing, in Qlik Sense a data model is developed by the developer where
a user can create his/her own visualizations using that and he can publish it to others also..
You mean this is not available in QlikView?
In QlikView this is not that much flexible but can be achieved up to some extent.
- HTML vs Desktop View
Now world is running after HTML 5 look and feel and who cares about the old good looking
windows look and feel, QlikView is still the Windows look but Qlik Sense UI matches with
the HTML look and feel.
One added advantage is Qlik Sense Sheets or objects can be easily integrated into other
things with ease but QlikView troubles you.
- Cloud Support
Here’s the real goodie Qlik Sense supports cloud deployments but QlikView doesn’t(who knows it may be introduced). You can opt for Public or Private clouds.
- Security
QlikView has good security features which are much improved in Qlik Sense.
Hope I have not troubled the beginners by giving too much technical buzz here.
**** Happy learning ****
